CTK Projects

Backpack Project

Since the 2009 inception of CTK’s Backpack Project, we have partnered with Tri-City Volunteers to distribute over 1025 backpacks filled with school supplies to families limited by low wages and unemployment. The Social Ministry committee works with Connecting for Education to distribute backpacks to the Fremont Family Resource Center, Tri-City elementary schools, and Davis Street and with Prince of Peace for their backpack distribution and ice cream social.

Due to unprecedented need, we want to expand our fundraising efforts. More than 14,000 K-12th grade students in our community are identified as socioeconomically disadvantaged. Distance learning presents challenges for all students, but those whose families face economic difficulties are impacted more than others. Your support will provide school and technology supplies as well as personal care items needed to help ease the burden for these families.

Donations can be mailed to or dropped off at CTK (1301 Mowry Avenue, Fremont, CA 94538) via the locked mailbox located at the walkway near the storage pods. Please note that your donation is for the "Backpack Project" on the memo line. Thank you!

Does your employer have a matching donation program? If so, please reach out to us!

Our robust group of sewists take on new projects as needs arise.

The group began with the Pillow Project. CTK volunteers have raised funds to donate 976 pillows and pillowcases to SAVE.

The next major project is Chemo Care bags donated to HERS Breast Cancer Foundation. They have donated 132 Chemo Care bags stocked with puzzle/color/faith books and travel-size toiletries. They’ve also donated 86 knitted/crochet scarves and 3 blankets.

In light of COVID-19, they turned to making masks and donating them to local healthcare providers, senior and special needs communities, as well as groups calling for assistance such as the Chinle Navajo People. To date, they made 8,765 masks.

Prayer Shawls

The mission of the Prayer Shawl Ministry is to provide hope, comfort, and healing to those in need. A prayer shawl can be seen as a symbolic “hug” from God. Knitters and crocheters at CTK pray for healing and comfort with every stitch, creating shawls protection and healing. May it encircle and enfold you with God’s always abundant and never ceasing love.

Tri-City Volunteers

We are currently unable to collect food donations for the Tri-City Silver Barrel.  Tri-City Volunteers has requested financial donations to help with the unprecedented need for assistance in the Fremont, Newark and Union City area.  For more information, please contact www.tri-cityvolunteers.org or call (510) 598-4065.

Bethesda Lutheran Communities

Bethesda Lutheran Communities is a big organization by the Missouri Synod that is dedicated to helping, housing and employing people with special needs. We are fortunate to have one of their homes built on our former church ground.
Some of our members and regular church-goers live in their group home and assisted apartments. In May 2020 we started to celebrate a weekly time of devotion together via Zoom thanks to the helpful staff at Bethesda.
